Curriculum

CDS Lakeshore Head Start uses the Creative Curriculum, with other curricula to support school readiness skills.

Each classroom is unique and creates an equitable learning environment. Children are engaged in many different types of educational and developmentally appropriate activities. Children are observed, assessed and individualized for their educational needs.

Early Head Start

Birth - 3

In our center-based infant/toddler programs, we use the Creative Curriculum in conjunction with My Teaching Strategies.

The Creative Curriculum

A national researched-based curriculum, The Creative Curriculum is used to provide developmentally appropriate activities and individualized lesson plans. Lesson plans are completed on a bi-weekly basis for this age group and are individualized for the development level of each child.

Lesson plans are available for review and parent input is always welcomed.

My Teaching Strategies

My Teaching Strategies is used to assess all of the children’s development four times a year and is aligned with the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework, School Readiness Goals and Michigan Early Childhood Standards of Quality.

Pregnant moms and children birth-3

In our home-based program, we utilize the Parents As Teachers Curriculum.

Individualized lesson plans are completed on a weekly basis for this program and are developed with the family.

This program also offers Socializations (Tot Time) twice per month where parents and children can come and learn and play with other families in the home-based program. My Teaching Strategies is also used in the home-based program to assess children’s development.

Head Start Preschool

3 - 5

In our center-based preschool programs, we also use the Creative Curriculum in conjunction with My Teaching Strategies, Zoo-phonics and Handwriting Without Tears.

Weekly lesson plans encompass the areas of literacy, physical health development, social-emotional development, language, mathematics, science, nutrition and outdoor activities.

Lesson plans are individualized for the development level of each child and are available for review and parent input is always welcomed.

My Teaching Strategies is used to assess all of the children’s development four times a year and is aligned with the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework, School Readiness Goals and Michigan Early Childhood Standards of Quality. Zoo-phonics is a multi-sensory program that teaches children the alphabet through phonics and memory. The Handwriting Without Tears curriculum helps children to use their fine motor skills for writing.
