Child Development Services operates 11 Head Start centers for children and their families in Ottawa and Northern Allegan counties. Children in Head Start are enrolled in a preschool program prior to kindergarten. Parents actively participate in the total Head Start Program.
Eligibility:
Low-income (according to federal guidelines or special needs*) children aged 3 to 5 years.
*Priority is given to those with the greatest need. Ten percent of enrollment is reserved for special needs children.
Children and parents participating in the Head Start program receive the following services free of charge:
* Bus transportation (to most centers)
* Children's Heath Program:
* Dental exams and treatment
* Hearing and vision screening
* Immunization follow-up
* Meal and snack provided
* Medical exams and treatment
* Parent involvement activities
* Special Needs assistance
* Support services to families
* Volunteer Opportunities
